OXALIS 2020/2021

1 We took a rather pragmatic approach to selecting new items initially, since it appeared that making major purchases wasn’t going to be possible during the pandemic. In fact, no tea harvest had been scheduled in Darjeeling at all, although later on around half the usual number of tea pickers were actually allowed to carry it out. Nevertheless, samples began to come in which blew us away. We could only marvel that in the end it was possible to put together the best selection of Darjeeling in our history. Six new teas were obtained from the first harvest, along with two from the in-between period and four more from the second harvest. Great care was taken to ensure that they differed in taste, marking each one out as specific in profile. We have always imported entire batches (one equalling 80-150 kg of tea), meaning OXALIS alone has the entire supply of it globally. Once sold out, there’s no way of sourcing any more of a given type. Notably, the jewels of this year are orthodox teas from the foothills of the Himalayas, which astonish in their quantity and variety. Our choices from Assam and Nepal are noticeably more modest in number. Assam Dejoo, with its honey- sweet tone and delicate note of orange, comes from the Brahmaputra basin. While Nepal brings us Tara Chiyabari, a rare and delicious Himalayen Bouquet from the first-ever harvest of a brand-new tea garden. We’ve sourced from China a classic dark Oriental Beauty oolong, as well as a highly successful green tea from Anhui Province with the name of Jin Shan Shi Yu. Exclusive to OXALIS in Central Europe are a number of organic teas from the only plantation in Colombia, the garden of Bitaco now also providing us with Green Emerald green tea, which is produced to the highest quality standards. The flavoured teas correspond in profile with the seasons of the year, each period boasting two new blends. These have been given the distinctive names of Pu Erh Karma, Meadow & Woodland, Blueberry Hill, Glory of the Snow, Chocolove, Sweet Delusion, Tropical Paradise and Banana Mocktail, encompassing a breadth of flavours and aromas. Despite the complexities and drawbacks we’re all experiencing at present, staying optimistic with a smile on one’s face will help us overcome the challenges more easily. With the onset of autumn, as is the custom at OXALIS, we’ve prepared this new catalogue displaying our full assortment, which is valid from 1st October, 2020. The novelty of this one is that it’s only available in electronic form on the website - www.oxalis.cz .
